With its
theme of ‘Art of Innovation', Auto Shanghai 2009 ended with great success on 28
April. Auto Shanghai 2009 attracted over 1,500 exhibitors from 25 countries and
regions. With a total exhibition area of 170,000 sq.m., the show exceeded
previous editions. The organizers have dedicated themselves to positioning Auto
Shanghai as an A-Class auto show by showcasing professionalism, internationalization
and branding. While other fairs have reduced their
exhibition space, Auto Shanghai has held onto and even expanded its
significance as a primary international fair.
Well-known
automobile brands regard Auto Shanghai as one of the important international
A-Class auto shows in 2009, covering the full range in terms of investment,
quantity, and quality of exhibited vehicles (first appearances and concept
cars). The press days attracted a high-ranking audience, among them Martin
Winterkorn, Chairman of the Volkswagen Group, Katsuaki Watanabe, President of
the Toyota Motor Corp, Ruppert Stadler, Chairman of Audi, Dr Dieter Zetsche,
Daimler Chairman, Tom Parves, CEO Rolls Royce, Wendelin Wiedeking, Porsche
Chairman, and Nick Reilly, President of Asia Pacific GM. Under Auto Shanghai 2009's
motto of ‘Art of Innovation’, all the local and international car manufacturers
showcased and focused alternative drive systems, for example, electric drives,
cars with lithium-ion batteries, hybrid and hydrogen-powered drive systems.
Also the big
Chinese brands like Geely, Chery, Great Wall Automotive, Lifan, Haima, BYD,
Zhonghua as well as other national exhibitors present at Auto Shanghai showed
that they are prepared to adjust to the international standard.
The total
number of exhibited cars was 918, overseas cars were 316; domestic cars
totalled 602. In total there were thirteen global first-appearance cars.
During the
whole exhibition period (20 to 28 April), over 600,000 visitors from 108
countries and regions came to visit Auto Shanghai 2009, which is the highest
number ever to attend Auto Shanghai. The first day open to trade visitors was
22 April. 141,000 visitors showed up, which tops (in visitors per day) the
previous record in the history of Auto Shanghai on the first two trade days.
The organizers have launched a series of high-tech and human-oriented services
solutions in line with the international service standard. They were well
prepared with comprehensive plans in advance and launched on-site emergency
resolutions, which ensured the on-site feedback in a timely manner. Every news
media outlet showed great interest in this auto exhibition. The international
mainstream media, like AP, Reuters, AFP, BBC, NHK, CNN, CNBC, ARD, Italian
Television, Xinhua and many more, all covered Auto Shanghai 2009. During the
exhibition, media centres played host to 1,800 media organizations, 763 from abroad, with a
total of 7,287 local and overseas journalists from 38 different countries and
regions.
