Three weeks to go before the start of Auto Shanghai 2009 - Show preview

As one of the important global automotive industry events in 2009, The 13th International Automobile & Manufacturing Technology Exhibition ('Auto Shanghai 2009') takes place from 22 to 28 April 2009 at the Shanghai New International Exhibition Centre. This year the show has a brand new concept and design: the motto for 2009 is 'Art of Innovation'.

Auto Shanghai 2009 will fully utilize all eleven indoor exhibition halls and the temporary outdoor halls at the Shanghai New International Exhibition Centre (SNIEC), taking up a total of 170,000 m2 of exhibition space, an increase of 20 percent compared to Auto Shanghai 2007. As far as the scale of the exhibition is concerned, Auto Shanghai 2009 is among the world´s leading auto shows and positioned as an A -class international auto show. Nine of the halls at Auto Shanghai 2009 are for automobile manufacturers (Hall W1-W5, E1-E4), the exhibition space here comprising 110,000 m2. Halls E5-E6, covering 35,000 m2, in addition to 12,000 m2 in the temporary outdoor halls, is dedicated to auto components exhibitors. The National Commercial Vehicles hall, special sections for auto tyres, auto audio devices and media exhibitors, the VIP lounge and press centre are also located on the outdoor site.

Exhibited at the show are all kinds of concept cars, saloon cars, sports cars, passenger cars, commercial vehicles, auto parts and fittings, auto acoustics, inspection and maintenance equipment and a whole range of auto accessories and products. This display represents the last word in the international auto industry – domestic enterprises will be showcasing their latest technology and products, and visitors can review all the latest developments in today´s automotive industry.

As the global economy faces a major downturn, the Chinese automotive market is a vital place for automobile manufacturers from home and abroad. The new products and competitive prices they provide will inject new vitality into the Chinese automotive market and deliver a unique development opportunity. The level of registrations received for the event is confirmation of the above-mentioned trend. The exhibition space for automobile manufacturers is increasing instead of decreasing, and we are seeing strong participation by manufacturers from home and abroad.

The big three US car makers, i.e. GM, Ford, Chrysler, will be maintaining the scale and standard of previous presentations at the show. Benz and BMW have announced that they will be enlarging their space and showcasing their major cars and concept cars. Toyota, Honda and Nissan are also significantly increasing their exhibition space. Moreover, Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, Citroen, Renault, Peugeot, Volvo, Mazda, Hyundai and Kia have all enrolled for Auto Shanghai 2009.
As for luxury and sports cars, Porsche, Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Maybach, Bentley and Spyker have also already signed up.
FAW, SAIC, Dongfeng, Chang'an, GAC and BAW are teaming up for the first time to promote their new cars under their own brands in a group participation; this is a debut for the Shanghai auto show. In addition BYD, Haima, Great Wall Auto, Brilliance, Changfeng, Greeley, Jianghuai, Hafei and others will be involved.
