Introduction Of International Automotive Associations - KAMA, KAICA, KAIDA


The Korean automotive industry is represented by three trade associations:

-          Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association (KAMA)
-          The Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA)
-          Korea Auto Industries Coop. Association (KAICA)
 

Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association (KAMA)
 
Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association (KAMA) is a non-profit organization, representing the interest of auto makers in Korea. KAMA is also dedicated to the sound growth of the automobile industry and the development of the national economy.
 
Major activities:
 
  • Representing the interests of Korean auto makers  
  • Promoting international cooperation  
  • Facilitating environmental and safety-related policy and regulations  
  • Promoting consumer satisfaction and fair trade  
  • Leading public opinion on automobile industry and promoting public relations  
  • Analysis, research and data publications  
  • Organizing the Seoul Motor Show

The Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA)

Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA), which was established in 1995, represents importers and distributors of imported automobiles. It is a corporation registered under the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, whose membership consists of thirteen importers and distributors of foreign automotive marques in the South Korean market.
KAIDA lobbies in support of its members for government deregulation of the South Korean import auto market, and also helps manage and coordinate joint events for sales promotions and other activities for automobile importers and distributors.

Major activities:

  • Participation in government’s policymaking legislation and deregulation activities on behalf of members  
  • Assessment of statistics review on registration and customs clearance figures of imported vehicles  
  • Issue management relating to negative perception or complaints relating to import vehicles to media and government  
  • Support/raise positive image of foreign auto makers through promotional activities such as joint exhibitions and events  
  • Management and operation of on-line network system between MOCT, KAIDA and members for registration of new import cars  
  • Joint events with government with foreign embassies and chambers of commerce

The Korea Auto Industries Coop. Association (KAICA)
 
Korea Auto Industries Coop. Association (KAICA) is the only association in the field of the automotive industry in Korea. It was founded in 1962 as a non-profit organization for the purpose of the development of Korean automobile and motorcycle industries, especially its parts and components manufacturing industries.
There are 270 member companies in KAICA.
KAICA endeavours to speak for the benefit of the industry, make proposition to the government and enhance international cooperation with foreign automotive related organizations.
 
Major activities:
 
  • Researching and analyzing problems of the industry is facing and recommending the appropriate implementation of policy to the related governmental organizations  
  • Collecting, compiling and disseminating information such as statistical data on production, sales and export pertaining to auto parts industry  
  • Providing member companies with all the updated information of technical standards and regulations related to auto parts and encouraging them to adhere to them  
  • Co-organizing Seoul Motor Show with KAMA(Korea Automobile Manufacturer Association) and participating in some international trade shows worldwide  
  • Assisting foreign customers in all their sourcing needs from providing information to arranging meetings with the appropriate Korean manufacturers

The three associations form every two years an organizing committee for Seoul Motor Show.
