The motor vehicle market in Russia
The Russian motor vehicle
market is the fastest growing in the world and by 2011 at the latest it will be
the biggest market in Europe. Despite this
fast pace of growth, motor vehicle imports are continuing to expand. At the
same time the number of foreign producers in Russia is increasing. The same
positive trend is being seen in the components market.
In 2007 128,000 heavy trucks were sold in Russia, compared to 95,000 in 2006
– this represents an increase of 35 percent. Sales of mid-sized and light
trucks increased by 13 percent and 15 percent. Experts expect that by 2012 the
primary components market in the country will reach a volume of $14.8 billion,
a rise of 85 percent, and the secondary components market will increase to $24.8
billion, a rise of 48 percent.
Today the components market in Russia
has a volume of $6.3 billion, of which 14 percent is accounted for by imports
from Germany.
The challenge going forward is less likely to be winning orders, but fulfilling
them.
