Vietnam Motor Show 2009 - Show Update
Held once every two years,
the Vietnam Motor Show is the most prestigious specialized exhibition of
automobiles in Vietnam;
it is organized by the Vietnam Automobile Manufactures’ Association (VAMA) and
Asia Trade Fair and Business Promotion (ATFA). The 5th Vietnam Motor Show,
taking place from 19 to 23 November 2009, will also be accompanied by many
exclusive related events and activities during the five days of the exhibition. Vietnam Motor Show 2009 is a
unique opportunity for trade visitors from all over the world to make good
business contacts, exchange information and enjoy the latest advanced
technology and products. In 2005 the automobile industry in Vietnam was
losing momentum but it recovered in 2006 and posted a good rate of growth
compared to that in other South-East Asian countries. Changing lifestyles and
rising spending on automobile-related parts in Vietnam has propelled the growth of
the automobile industry in the country. Apart from that, Vietnam’s entry
to the WTO has made the conditions favourable for foreign manufacturers as the
Vietnamese government reduced the import tax on auto component in 2006.
Although in past years Vietnam
was more of a motorcycle-oriented country, its passenger-car segment witnessed
good growth after Vietnam
joined the WTO. Rising incomes and a flexible bank loan structure have boosted
growth in the passenger-car segment. Increased disposable income has boosted the purchasing
power of the Vietnamese and the availability of flexible car loans is
supporting sales of passenger cars, a factor which is also expected to benefit
sales through to 2010. Spending on buses, coaches, and taxis increased up since
2006, in line with the high demand for road transportation. In this scenario,
cost-effective and low-cost passenger cars may see a healthy future ahead.
