ROMEXPO Exhibitions Centre
Bucharest International Fair is situated on the northern side of the city, in
the midst of a beautiful landscape. It is close to a major motorway junction
and within 10 - 15 minutes drive of Bucharest city centre, the Henri Coanda
International Airport (an important air terminal) and the main railway station.
ROMEXPO Exhibitions Centre is a
multi-functional complex with an overall display area of 55,000 sq.m. indoors
and over 45,000 sq.m. outdoors.
By the end of the 1950s, due to accelerated growth of the national
economy and the expansion of foreign trade relations, conditions were ripe for
Bucharest to have its own exhibition centre with an international orientation.
Thus, in 1959, the authorities in Bucharest launched the project to build an
exhibition centre, using up-to-date architectural solutions, with a total area
of 17,000 sq.m.
In April 1962, the Bucharest Exhibitions Centre was inaugurated with a
convention attended by 11,000 participants. The Centre's architecture was one
of the most advanced in Europe, and it has become emblematic of modern
Bucharest;
In 1968, the Exhibition Office became the Fairs and Exhibitions Company,
specialized in organizing exhibitions in Bucharest and in foreign countries,
and official Romanian participations in foreign fairs; in December 1991, the Fairs and Exhibitions
Company became ROMEXPO SA, a joint stock company with private ownership, with
the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania and Bucharest as the main
shareholder.
